The question that I keep on asking myself about our communities and the government is that, who do we blame for the damages made by people protesting due to for lack of service delivery from the government ?
Yes, I do understand that people want service delivery from the government, but why are they destroying things. What I want to know is how our communities are going to develop if we keep on destroying the little development that is made with in our communities.

Tlotlang middle school in Bona Bona in North West appealed to the government for help due to the fact that about three weeks ago the anger residences of Bona Bona burned the only school they have due to lack of service delivery read more. Now who has to build a new school? Who do we blame the communities for wanting service delivery or the government for not delivering to the community?

This is not the first protest whereby community members destroy their own infrastructure. The sad part is that the infrastructure they are destroying is the ones they need the most such as clinics, libraries and schools.  To us south Africans it seems like protesting is the only way to solving our problems, but the really fact is that we are making thing worse for ourselves.  I believe that residence do such things to the fact that they believe that the government will respond quickly to their demands.

From a communication point of view I think that the government has to shop with making empty promises that they cannot fulfil and know their communication objectives that they need to achieve in order for them to satisfy they stakeholder.

  1. Dineo you have just touched base on one of the most problematic issue that is currently affecting us because people have this mentality of if they want something from the government they have to fight which means that some of the most valuable things in the community will be vandalised.

  3. Yes Vincent I agree that people have this mentality that only way they can get something from the government is by fighting, while they are not realising that they are destroying the most variables that is important.

  4. I do not know wether it's being uneducated or being ignorant, yes South Africans think that by destroying they will be "heard". I think the government should deliver as quickly as possible and communicate with the people in an effective way. People should also refrain from destroying, but there needs to be someone to inform them.

  6. getting the attention of the government is their main idea i think but they are doing it in a wrong manner because they are destroying things they already have to obtain new ones.for me it does not make sense.service delivery is such an issue in South Africa no wonder these people take the matter in their own hands.

  8. Dineo, this this thing has recently became a habit of most communities, of which, i always asking myself that why they doing that? maybe its being uneducated or...i dont know, im just confused by their reactions.

  9. Mthokozisi, I agree with that protesting and vandalising has become a habit in our communities and yes the reason to this, maybe because of most people are not educated and do not know how to handle such issues.

  10. I say that it is pointless to just wake and decide to burn the facilities of your own community, because for me it is just going back and forth. This thing of trying to get attention from the government by burning tyre and destroying things is makes the government to not facilitate more on the most important things. The times of burning tyres has already passed and our people should come up with new strategies of solving such problems.

  11. I also agree that we need new strategies of dealing with problems instead of burning tyres on the streets.

  13. i find it very confusing about our strategies of solving problems... because how can u solve a problem by creating a double problem?why have to burn the only school that you have? dont they think that they creating another problem... and the next thing is they will be protesting that we do not have a school near by

    1. I agree with you that it is very confusing on how issues are handled in communities, instead of finding solutions on how are they going to solve the problems they have they add more to these problems.

  14. Miss D. in public relations we believe in corporate strategy,so our people who are far from thinking better for our communities vandalise and destroy because they do not know or have a better understanding of how things are orderely done in the work places. This people just think that when you have a positi0n in municipalities you can do things by just snapping your fingers.SO I SAY THAT COMMUNITY MEMBERS SHOILD BE BLAMED FOR PROMOTING SUCH ACTIONS.

  15. Who do we blame for destroying areas? we blame the people, but who do we hold accountable?, the government. We live in a society filled with corruption as well as social and economic inequalities it is impossible for people with inequalities to behave in an acceptable manner more espeially when empty promises are made by Government. The government must work harder to try and improve the lives of fellow south Africans

  17. You know i seriously dont understand how people would destroy the only valuable things they have just because they want the others. how are we ever going to fully develop when we keep on behaving like sick kids....i think we need to be educated and responsible enough to build a better environment for our kids not what is being done now when people protest

    1. Well Sippkazi the reason why people are destroying things is because they think that the government will respond quickly towards their concerns and yes people should consider building a better environment for their kids instead of destroying the little development in their areas.
