Selebi released on medical parole

Jackie Selebi crying for a medical parole:

Is it fair that Jackie Selebi is released on medical parole; while people die almost each and every day in prison waiting for their medical parole to be approved?

I agree with the Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum and senior officials that the process followed in releasing Selebi was not transparent enough.
All along while he was busy with his criminal activities he was not sick now that he has to face the law he’s dying. Jackie Selebi was the former national commissioner of South African police service, who was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for corruption. He has only served 229 days of his 1st year in prison for corruption read more.
Selebi, who is said he needs dialysis for kidney failure, was released from Pretoria central prison at the recommendation of an 11-member Medical Parole Advisory. What I want to know is that; is this other Schabir Shalk scenario? Does this mean that all corrupt government and ANC’s officials will get released on medical parole and not serve their sentences?
From a communication point of view, I think that the message that is being delivered to us by the South African justice system is that the poor deserve to die in prison and the wealthy will be released on medical parole. What is your say on this?

    1. I also agree with you there is a high number of people who are dying in prison so I guess it’s because they do not have money.

  8. This whole situation goes to show that people in higher places get first preference especially within the South African government. Jackie Selebi may have been sick but now that he has to face his charges, his sickness is actually exaggerated or he is getting worse. I think this is just a technique by his laywers to get him out of prison.

    1. Yes it is not fair that same people are treated special because they have money after we should all be equal. This means that we think that we are leaving in a democratic country while we are not.

  11. I think our justice system is not fair and it does not cater for all equally for they only give the rich the best treatment. It is amazing how these government officials always lie to us and pretend as if they do care for our people. Why they all ways have to give people in high places good treatment while there are people suffering out there. Jackie deserves to serve his full sentence and stop being a cry baby.

    1. Yes I agree with you our justice system is not fair and it does not cater for everyone especially if you do not have money. This means that for one to get justice one has to buy their justice.

  12. Thank you dineo for showing that those who have money are given special treatment while people die everyday in many South African jails but because guys like Jackie selebi decide to get sick their medical parole is processed overnight and that is not fair.

  13. True to that you have made a very valid point that needs to be taken into consideration by our government. He just got his medical parole just like that while people wait until they die.
